We haven’t had a lot of videogame coverage here to date, but there are crossover games to movies and TV shows from time to time (see: Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues Videogame Coming in October) which warrant coverage. Maybe we’ll establish some sort of FIRST LOOK type thing for videogames. Call it WISH LIST or something? Any suggestions welcome in the comments.
Anyway, we have enjoyed playing games for 30+years. Me? Since Pong, so that takes me way, way back. Like retrogaming on steroids.
The console-portable hybrid system we play most currently is the Nintendo Switch, although we do own a PS4 and Xbox One which have better graphics and systems that are more powerful. They aren’t even hooked up to a TV at the moment (long story). We are also playing a lot of the Ultimate Legends Arcade system (see: Arcade and Console Videogaming Heaven – Legends Ultimate Arcade), which lets us access all sorts of arcade and console games on a standup cabinet.
Eventually, when we can find one in retail stores normally, we’ll probably pick up the newest Xbox and PS5. It’s not a priority.
We also enjoy board games and card games. Lord of The Rings on Nintendo Switch has a card game that looks interesting and made our wish list and purchase for $19.99.
The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game – Definitive Edition includes:
– Two additional campaigns: The Shadow’s fall & The Witch-King’s Grasp and their respective heroes.
– A brand new mode: the Mirror of Galadriel which lets you test your deck in randomly generated quests.
– The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game’s current owners will get the Definitive Edition for free.
Build a deck of iconic Heroes and challenge the forces of Sauron in this thrilling tactical card game. Go forth and explore famous locations, complete story-driven quests, and forge your own legend of Middle-earth. But beware the Eye of Sauron—should you draw his attention, all will be lost…
Have you watched Cobra Kai [FIRST LOOK] on Netflix yet?
If you like the original Karate Kid movie, it’s about as good as you can get without Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) in the cast. I mean, Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso 34 years later still having a grudge? We’ve now seen the first two seasons and, yes, we definitely recommend binging this ASAP.
Video games based on movies and TV shows are usually garbage, but this one looks like and old school 2D brawler and seems to be following the TV show first two seasons pretty closely from the trailer below.
Titled ‘Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues’, the game is a side-scrolling brawler based on the show (which launched on Netflix recently, having previously been available on YouTube), featuring RPG-style progression, 2-player co-op, and a cast of characters from the excellent Cobra Kai TV series.
I don’t play many videogames, but I’ve always like 2D fighters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game was a 4-player 2D fighter and I plunked more than a few quarters into that.
The company Arcade 1UP has been making some awesome 3/4 size arcade cabinets and selling through retailers like Best Buy and Amazon for $450. Some come with special game stools for another $80. There are included risers that make it full size as well. Assembly is required but it sounds like it’s not too intense, taking a couple hours to put together.
The TMNT cabinet looks just like the arcade. You can quickly find these for purchase by searching for Arcade1UP at BestBuy.com, Amazon and other retailers.
Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues will be available for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on October 27, 2020.
When it comes to games, pinball is our favorite together. Whenever we go to the arcade we usually play pinball. As far as video pinball goes, Zen Studios makes some of the most entertaining pinball games. We’ve played across multiple platforms, but I was delighted to learn recently that the Star Wars pinball games have become available to play on the Nintendo Switch. For whatever, reason they were part of the Pinball FX2 tables offered.
There are 19 different Star Wars themed pinball tables to choose from as well as the option to choose from playing the Light or Dark side (most seem to choose the Light side):
The tables look great and are fun to play. Tons of easy lanes to hit through and some challenging spots to reach and trigger many, many bonus rounds.
One bonus game is like Galaga.
And then there are more tables …
This game is going to provide many hours of fun when not watching movies! Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker hits theaters December 20, 2019
