Any Good Cavemen Movie Recommendations?

Reading the article that fossil from early humans suggest we might once have hibernated to survive cold winters makes me think of cavemen movies. We’ll get to movie recs in a minute, but first this whole Jurassic Park like dig:

They suggest these early humans found themselves “in metabolic states that helped them to survive for long periods of time in frigid conditions with limited supplies of food and enough stores of body fat”. They hibernated and this is recorded as disruptions in bone development.

Early humans may have survived the harsh winters by hibernating | Science | The Guardian

Hibernating like bears or just camping out in caves over the winter? I’m going with the latter, because it seems likely our ancestors were hibernating, but who knows. I had to Google this, but humans the way we know ourselves have only existed on earth about 200,000 years (see top image).

The first movie that comes to mind when thinking about cavemen is Encino Man starring Pauly Shore. It’s his best movie, really. Although it’s more a fish out of water, er, rather caveman in current times comedy. Animated would be The Flintstones and more recently, The Croods. Guess there were two live action Flintstones movies.

For more drama, 1981 saw Quest for Fire. Among the more Academy-noteworthy cavemen movies.

What cavemen movies do you recommend?

Weekend #49 of 53 (12/3 – 12/6/2020) for 2020 Picks By Streaming Service

First of the month license roulette! Movies moving around from one service to another, some movies going out of rotation to archival digital lockers only to be available for purchase, others coming back from the archives, others perhaps leaving access altogether.

It’s the last part that gives us the greatest pause. What happens when movies you want to see disappear and there are no streaming channels or live TV to find them? If you already have a digital copy of those, great, otherwise it’s the waiting game hoping they might return or heading off to buy somebody’s old copy online (eBay!).

Make your watchlist, check it more than twice, and try to find out which service is naughty (let it go for good) and nice (has it available to watch).

5 Movies COMING TO THEATERS in December 2020

Theaters & HBO Max: Dec 25

All movie theaters are closed by governor’s order in our state (Washington) until December 14, 2020, but the following are movies planned for release in other parts of the United States during December.

With the second government mandated closure of movie theaters in 2020 it’s been a dreadful years for movie theater patrons and owners. We’ve somehow managed to see 45 or so new movies in theaters. That seems like a lot, all things considered, and there have been a small few good movies worth checking out. It’s been one of those years, all around, that we just want and need to put behind us.

For historical reference, we’re including the films originally planned along with their rescheduled release dates, several have been pushed to 2021.

2020 Theater Releases
JAN | FEB | MAR | APR | MAY | JUNE
JUL | AUG | SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC

If you’d like to see a list of all movies released in 2020 click here (that post is being updated throughout the year). Also available is 2021 movies coming to theaters.

All December 2020 movie release dates unless otherwise indicated are for the United States, the release dates in other countries can/may/will vary.

    • West Side Story (delayed, moved from Dec 18 to Dec 10, 2021) – adaptation of famous Broadway musical directed by Steven Spielberg. Could have major interest.
    • Samaritan (delayed, moved from Dec 11 to June 4,2021)
    • Coming 2 America (delayed, moved from Dec 18, 2020 in theaters to March 2021 on Amazon) – Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall doing this again? Can’t wait to laugh at this one! Cast list includes Wesley Snipes, too? This should be fun. Clever sequel title!
    • Dune (delayed, moved from Dec 18 to Oct 1, 2021)
    • Top Gun 2: Maverick (delayed, moved from June 24 to Dec 23, move #2 to July 2, 2021)

Dune, Top Gun 2: Maverick, West Side Story, Free Guy, Death On The Nile, Samaritan, Unchartered, all scheduled and delayed to 2021. All I can say about 2021 is if the pandemic subsides and moviegoers return, the theaters have a chance to rebound in a big way. The 2021 schedule is looking strong, bubbling over from Christmas 2020. Fingers crossed!

All My Life
(Dec 4)

Inspired by a true story.

Wonder Woman 1984
FIRST LOOK
(Dec 25)

News Of The World
(Dec 25)

Tom Hanks is always worth checking out. He’s going western on us here.

Promising Young Woman
(Dec 25)

Saw a lot of previews in theaters for this one prior to the second shutdown. This is giving me a strong Harley Quinn like vibe, character-wise anyway. Like she’s about to go postal on all men. Maybe this is the Birds of Prey tale we should have gotten? It’s not Harley Quinn, just to be clear.

Monster Hunter
(Dec 30)

Saw a few previews in theater for this as well and the effects look great. It’s based on a videogame which I haven’t played yet, but interested in checking that out, too. Looking forward to seeing this and Wonder Woman 1984 most of these five films.

Which of these movies, if any, are you looking forward to seeing?

Of the list of movies above released or delayed, what are you most looking forward to seeing? Are you going to wait for these movies to come to streaming or venture into theaters? If you’re still in a holding pattern, it’s all good. Let’s chat about it in the comments.

As always, wishing you all happy viewing, whatever you’re watching!

Netflix: Nov 20

Weekend #47 of 53 (11/19 – 11/22/2020) for 2020 Picks By Streaming Service

As Thanksgiving inches closer, Netflix continues to feed us with new Christmas-oriented content, including a Dolly Parton musical and an animated movie called Alien Xmas.

For non-holiday movies: Body Cam (2020) on Amazon Prime Video and Hulu, Machete Kills (2013) on Netflix. Who can ever get enough of Danny Trejo as Machete? The trailer for that is below. Run is a Hulu Original.

Just past the weekend on Monday comes a new Bruce Willis movie called, Hard Kill that went straight to VOD. It has the absolute worst 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so could be evidence that a once mighty action hero has completely bottomed out, but mentioning for those who want to check out the newest movie Willis has appeared in. I will turn it on and give it a try. Not sure if I’ll stay for it all, similar to what I’ve done with some other action stars of the past like Steven Seagal’s recent movie output.
