Opening 2-11-2021 in Theaters: The Mauritanian, Land, Judas and the Black Messiah

Theaters: 2/11/2021

Wednesday, week #7 of 2021 (2/11 – 2/14/2021)

The last time movie theaters were allowed via government order to be open in Washington State near Seattle where we live was the week of 11/13/2020 and AMC theaters reopened Friday 2/4/2021.

This coming weekend three new movies are premiering in theaters: The Mauritanian, Land and Judas and the Black Messiah on both HBO Max and in theaters.

Judas and the Black Messiah
[FIRST LOOK]

Movie #3 of 17 for the HBO Max and theater simultaneous release schedule following Wonder Woman: 1984 and The Little Things.

Black Panthers, racism, rising against oppression. Some would say these topics never get old, but purely from an excited about watching these type of movies perspective? For me, not so much. Will admit this looks among the better ones for this subject matter.

Not sure if we’ll watch this in theaters on HBO Max. Not sure it’s the type of movie, unlike Wonder Woman or Godzilla vs. Kong that simply demand to be seen on the big screen, but we’ll see what we do. Not many new movies coming out the next few weeks, so probably will see this in theaters.

Anticipation: 4/10

Land

Hmm, this is one of those trailers that has me not sure what to think. Could go either way, so going to put anticipation in the middle. Haven’t heard much about this film before now, so it is sort of coming out of nowhere.

Anticipation: 5/10

The Mauritanian

Most looking forward to watching this one. I guess the whole 9/11 topic feels like it hasn’t fully been explored to me from every conceivable angle. For awhile, Hollywood was leaving this alone. Being it’s the 20 year anniversary of the horrible event, am guessing we’ll see more movies this year featuring this as a backdrop.

Anticipation: 7/10

Are you looking forward to seeing any/all of these movies? Wherever you are watching movies, happy watching to you!

FIRST LOOK: Judas And The Black Messiah Movie (2021)

Here comes #3 of 17 in the Warner Bros. strategy to release movies in both theaters and on HBO Max for the first month.

Chairman Fred Hampton was 21 years old when he was assassinated by the FBI, who coerced a petty criminal, William O’Neal, to betray him and the Black Panther Party. In 1968, Hampton became Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, who were fighting for freedom, the power to determine the destiny of the Black community, and an end to police brutality. Hampton was inspiring a generation, which put him directly in the line of fire of the FBI and Chicago PD. To destroy the revolution, they had to do it from both the outside and the inside. Facing prison, O’Neal is offered a deal by the FBI: if he will infiltrate the Black Panthers and provide intel on Hampton, he will walk free. O’Neal lives in fear that his treachery will be discovered even as he rises in the ranks. But as Hampton’s fiery message draws him in, he cannot escape the deadly trajectory of his betrayal.
