Bruce Willis As John McClane in Die Hard Battery Commercial

Die Hard ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ just doesn’t get old with repeated rewatchings. It’s so well done, Bruce Willis’ character is perfectly cast, the story is very good, Hans Gruber is a great villain, and then there’s the whole “Yippie Ky ehhh …” Among the best action taglines, right up there with “I’ll be back” in Terminator.

Old news here, but new to us. We don’t watch many commercials because the only ads we see are when we watch them on ad-supported Hulu, FREE streaming channels and the extremely rare live TV show.

This Diehard battery commercial came out in October 2020. It’s really clever.

“I’ve never done any sort of commercial with the John McClane character, but Advance Auto Parts brought an idea to integrate DieHard the battery into the Die Hard story through a short film that’s authentic to McClane and both brands,” said Willis in a statement. “Advance approached this like a motion picture – the script is clever, the production intense and the spot is entertaining. This is what Die Hard fans expect. I think they will dig the DieHard –Die Hard mashup.”

Tonight, on Hulu the commercial just kept replaying the commercial. Love it. Some movies are just perfect for products.

It makes so much sense that I don’t know why this has been branding from the beginning. Maybe it has and that was missed too.

Any other clever commercials with movie and product tie-ins that you can recommend?

Another Terrible Idea: An LGBT Die Hard Remake – Please Don’t Be Serious

Die Hard ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½

Some ideas are stupid. No, really, it isn’t about whether or not you like or dislike LGBT movies. I happen to like some that I’ve seen and support seeing more.

But give us original stories. Don’t take existing stories we loved, recast them with sexes swapped and call that creativity. That’s just lazy gender swapping.

An LGBT Die Hard remake seems horribly misguided. I mean, mad props to Charlize Theron who probably could pull off the acting chops with no problems, if the underlying story is lame then, nothing else matters.

As you may’ve seen, the idea of Theron tackling a female-driven riff on Die Hard gathered some buzz on social media earlier this week, and the 45 year-old was more than onboard with the idea. Not only that, but former New Girl star Hannah Simone also threw her hat into the ring

Charlize Theron Supports Campaign For Her To Star In LGBT Die Hard Remake

Again, I’m all for an LGBT action film that explores new territory. We just don’t need to see a Diehard remake with the main characters sex changed. This is the kind of thinking that just loses again and again. Diehard wasn’t that long ago to even need a remake. And doing so without Bruce Willis as John McClane and Bonnie Bedelia as Holly would be silly.

There are so many, many great books that could be adapted into films. Some are very LGBT, so there’s your source material. Leave Diehard alone already. I’m tired of subpar Diehard sequels with Bruce Willis, why would I want to see Charlize Theron in the title role? You?

Answering The Important Christmas Questions + 2019 Holiday Movie Viewing Challenge Results

No better day to answer if a movie is a Christmas movie or not.

Diehard, yes, it’s a Christmas movie. Yippie ki-yay … seriously, people are debating this eternally important question.

For those of you with growling stomachs and no desire to cook or eat leftover turkey, or just want to wander outside the house, CNN shares a list of businesses that are open on Christmas day. St. Nick blesses everyone working on a holiday.

In other news, let’s ponder what makes Christmas movies so popular?

As holiday movies bring viewers into a fictional world, people are able to work through their own fears and desires about self-worth and relationships. Such movies can provide solace, reaffirmation and sometimes even courage to continue working through difficult situations. The movies offer hope in believing it all might turn out alright in the end.

What Makes Christmas Movies So Popular?

So many that one could spend an entire year, one movie a day, watching nothing but Christmas movies. Not sure I could meet that challenge.

I just spent two months trying to watch 25+ Christmas movies. Plenty enough for me to last another year. While I like Santa, his big red bundle of joy, I’m ready to move onto the new year celebrations … the next holiday.

But first, we have to review the holiday movies seen in the viewing challenge.

2019 Holiday Movie Viewing Challenge – SUCCESS!

Will this be an annual blog tradition? Maybe. Even though it’s Christmas morning, I’m feeling very done with Christmas movies. They start to just blend together after you’ve seen a few of them. And after seeing a couple dozen you feel the cinematic equivalent of eating a dozen donuts.

You have plenty of holiday movies to choose from on the streaming service of your choice.

How many Christmas movies have you watched since November 1? Any special recommendations to share? The comments section awaits you.
