Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. exhibition fight needs more time — delayed until November 28

Just change the date to November 28 … everything else is the same in the above image

Hey, at least this is a non-pandemic reason to delay something. Or maybe it is related, because an official announcement hasn’t been made as of this writing clarifying the specific reasoning.

(NOTE: With publications like ESPN and Sports Illustrated posting articles on this news, I think it’s fair to say it’s probably accurate. However, if you go to the TysonOnTriller.com website, you’ll see the date still shows 9/12/2020)

The Tyson vs. Jones Jr. exhibition fight scheduled for September 12 has been pushed back until November 28.

Sources say that the fight was moved because Tyson’s team felt they could maximize revenue by rescheduling. A meeting was held between both sides recently, and Jones approved of the switch.

Tyson previously indicated he was donating his fighting purse to charity, so it’s possible he wants to donate the maximum amount the fight can bring in(?).

ESPN just posted an article 15 minutes ago providing even further details:

The source confirmed that the organizers of this event needed more time to secure international television deals and tie up loose ends in regards to the pay-per-view.

Another refreshing aspect of this event — also financial in nature — is that Tyson didn’t want to use traditional boxing promoters or agents, which Jones Jr. also agreed to. Presumably this was done to increase revenue as well. No Don Kings will be in on this money.

Those who want to see Tyson fighting sooner rather than later will have to settle for the Shark Week special on Discovery airing at the moment this was posted 8/9/2020 (see: FIRST LOOK: Tyson vs. Jaws: Rumble On The Reef – Discovery GO (TV))

So, instead of the exhibition fight happening in a month, it will be more like 3, almost 4 months from now. Assuming there isn’t another delay or cancellation for some reason.

These are the entertainment days we live in.
