The Quest for Xfinity Flex required for early Peacock Access – TV Shows and Movies A-Z List

If you are one of the millions who use Xfinity internet, but don’t have Flex, it is FREE

So, we need the Xfinity Flex box to get PeacockTV that launches today, April 15. Sigh, another box on another HDMI port on the TV. At least the price is right.

My advance research failed me until the day before when I finally spotted an article that detailed simply being an Xfinity high speed internet customer was not enough.

How to get the box?

Local Xfinity office or snail mail delivery. The local offices are running restricted hours due to the pandemic, so we went when the store opened at 11am to see if they had any more of these magical little Roku-wannabe Flex boxes.

The Flex is indeed a smart venture for Xfinity in today’s streaming world. If one wants to take full advantage of Flex, going all in on Xfinity’s ecosystem is a must. One example is that if you have Xfinity’s Gateway modem/router, the Flex will automatically connect to your internet service, while if you own a third-party brand, that setup will have to be completed manually.

Death by Netflix: Can Comcast’s Xfinity TV Service Survive? | The National Interest

Xfinity has done a — no surprise — horrible job educating their existing customers that this box is there for them free of charge (additional boxes for extra rooms cost $5/month). We’ve been paying over $100/month for years and the last thing I remember them pushing on us — or at least trying to — was home surveillance. Before that it was (gasp!) telephone service. Who needs a telephone service through the cable company?

We stopped by the local Xfinity office at the reduced hours start time (11am). They were in full social distancing mode and were metering people in and out of the building. It took only 10 minutes or so to get in, get the box, and say “no” to live TV for an additional $25/month (no thanks on live TV).

The Xfinity Flex box is thin and small, perhaps a little larger than the palm of your hand

Setup for the Xfinity Flex was very easy. It comes with an HDMI cable and AC power adapter.

Just plug in the power, an HDMI cable turn it on and walk through a very brief setup process (English language, WiFi password) and then voila! the network screen.

Then we’re at the title screen which is laid out very similarly to Netflix and Amazon Prime.

There is Peacock to explore …. or is it?

Spotted the PeacockTV graphic and clicked on it only to find out …

As of 12:45pm PST (GMT-8) on April 15, PeacockTV is not available via Flex … at least in our area

No PeacockTV yet. I’m hooked up and ready to check it out whenever it is available today. Supposed to be available on April 15 for Xfinity Flex customers, but nothing I could locate says when it will appear today … or even if it really will appear today.

12:51pm PST … checked again. Yay! It’s asking for an email address to sign up! We’re in! So it must literally have activated in our area within the last few minutes.

What do you see that you would like to watch?

Alfred Hitchcock fans rejoice, lots here on PeacockTV for you. I’m also super excited to see many Universal Monsters classic movies including Abbott & Costello meeting those monsters. There is a good amount of classic movies being offered that you will not find anywhere else streaming at the moment.

What movies and TV shows listed above are you most interested in watching or rewatching?

  1. Great minds think alike! I was on the phone talking to Comcast today about this very thing too. They read me the press release on Peacock and sent me a flexbox as well. I agree with you that they need to market this option more because I got rid of cable and only have internet and this could be a great option for me. I will be curious to see how accessible it is to the blind and if the shows are available in audio description. So, I will be checking this out and blogging about that on my own site. Thanks for sharing about this.
