Have enjoyed some Japanese anime and videogames, but I’m not very knowledgeable or well-versed in the scene. That makes this FIRST LOOK particularly educational (for me). Also, like Impractical Jokers, this movie is already in theaters. Typically, we only do FIRST LOOK profiles on movies that haven’t come out yet.

The story follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without superpowers (called Quirks) in a world where they have become commonplace, but who still dreams of becoming a hero himself. He is scouted by All Might, Japan’s greatest hero, who shares his quirk with Izuku after recognizing his potential, and later helps to enroll him in a prestigious high school for heroes in training.

From this description, I’m getting an X-Men academy vibe. Only instead of mutants, it’s people without super powers.

Japanese animation talent is very good. The gigantic eyes, explosions, smoke and character electricity powers look intriguing. We’re planning to watch, rate later this week in 4DX format at the Regal Red Rock in Las Vegas.

Movies, Movies, Movies 
Highly recommend the series if you have an interest in the shonen anime (action/adventure). The series clearly understands genre cliches and deftly manages to implement them in fresh and finely tuned ways. I’ve seen the movie and think it did a lot well. It’s a fun enough romp for fans of the series but risks spoiling events for anime only watchers. The story isn’t as fleshed out as the series proper, but the animation is absolutely the best I’ve ever seen it.

It reminds me of a Japanese videogame story for some reason. I’ve always felt like they did the best storylines in videogames. That’s not a diss to the TV or movie in any way, it’s meant as compliment.

I was talking to Mr. Critic. It aired on ABC in 1994 before moving to FOX the next year, then being cancelled due to low ratings.
It centered around Jay Sherman, a film critic living in New York, who reviews films on his own in-universe TV show.

I’m not really a fan of anime in general, more like a fan of certain ones. I do have a friend though who does watch this kind of thing, and since he knows I watch ‘The Big O ‘, ‘Lupin the 3rd Part II ‘, ‘Trigun’ and ‘Cowboy Bebop’ from time to time, he suggested I check out this series. And so I did. I don’t love it as much as those previously mentioned ones, but it was enjoyable.
