Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty – Now a Convicted Sex Crimes Felon

Harvey Weinstein in a walker during his trial. His serious back problems are now joined by the problem of pending conviction sentencing

The once mighty movie mogul has truly fallen.

Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty on two of five possible counts: criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree. He was found not guilty, though, of the most serious charges, of predatory sexual assault (two counts) and rape in the first degree. The jury, made up of seven men and five women, delivered the verdict on Monday, nearly a week after beginning deliberations.

Harvey Weinstein found guilty on two charges, including rape

I’ve tried to stay away from commenting on this case until the trial reached its conclusion. Now that this time has passed, except for the sentencing, it’s time to focus on something very ironic involving Weinstein’s case.

That’s right. Head of Miramax, Harvey Weinstein, considered one of the giants Hollywood once upon a time, is now facing a minimum of 5 years in prison for just one of these charges. His team of lawyers is appealing, but there is another case in Los Angeles waiting, regardless the sentencing outcome here. Weinstein could be behind bars for, literally, the rest of his life.

Weinstein’s business is bankrupt, he’s moving around in a walker with reported health issues and his name is synonymous with allegations of abuse of power and predatory behavior toward women. Whether this is true or false in Weinstein’s eyes, a jury of his peers has found him guilty and nothing else he thinks really matters any more.

A curious Academy Awards sidenote:

An analysis of Academy Award acceptance speeches from 1966 to 2016 found that Weinstein had been thanked or praised in 34 speeches—as many times as God, and second only to Steven Spielberg with 43 mentions.

How powerful was Harvey Weinstein?
Almost no one has been thanked at the Oscars more

Hopefully this verdict will serve as some sort of warning to men in power — in movies and elsewhere — that abuse can, will and should result in criminal prosecution. If found guilty, like Weinstein, and your appeals fail — should that actually happen here — then you’ll be put in a cell, eventually locked up alongside other criminals and thugs. And that’s when the real scary stuff can happen.

Sure, Weinstein might get some sort of celebrity segregation for a time, but sooner or later he could run into the regular prison population. Some of them might want to have sex with Weinstein, but he might not welcome those sexual advances.

Oh, the irony.
